On Sunday morning, it was announced that redshirt junior Basil Smotherman was no longer a member of the Purdue Men’s Basketball team.
Coach Matt Painter said in a statement, “There are standards and expectations that our student-athletes must follow and Basil has not met these guidelines. We have mutually agreed the best route for him is to no longer be a member of our squad.”
As many fans know, this was not the first time that Smotherman has been in trouble with the team. He served a suspension at the beginning of the year due to an arrest for possession of paraphernalia.
Smotherman was seeing less playing time in recent games but was well-liked by fans for his flashy play and videoboard show “Cooking with Basil.”
